Sayers Croft Sustainable Community Project

Chandler Chicco Agency were keen to fulfil elements of their CSR strategy by developing a sustainable community project which would have tangible benefits for both their staff and the community they were operating in. Across the Divide were asked to find a project for 60 people lasting one day, within an hours’ journey of London, but most importantly, a project resulting in a lasting and sustainable outcome.
The Event
Across the Divide has links with community based CSR projects and Chandler Chicco were delighted with the fantastic project we found for them. They chose Sayers Croft, a residential and environmental centre for children and young people.
Using skilled Across the Divide team members to oversee activities, we agreed that teams should complete three projects. Firstly, to redesign and refurbish a hedge maze which had fallen into disrepair. Secondly to paint and decorate one of the dining rooms used by both children and staff. Thirdly develop the woodlands alongside the centre for children to enjoy the countryside.
The Outcome
The teams did sterling work and went far beyond their briefs. By the end of the day, they had landscaped the maze and had also designed and built a ‘Cheat’ route out of the maze. They completed the painting and decorating of the dining room. They constructed two sets of woodland steps as well as revetments to help prevent erosion of existing paths and they also managed to plant 25 yew bushes and repaired some of the existing steps and pathways.
The success of this lead to a further 4 years’ project work between Chandler Chicco, Sayers Croft and Across the Divide.
