Just Namibia Trek & Project 2010. Namibia

11 September 2010 to 22 September 2010

This 11 day trip includes 3 full days of trekking, two half days trekking and 4 days of charity project labour, renovating the school playground. The existing playground facilities are poor and stripped of essential parts, making it useless to the children. The facilities need to be restructured and fitted with non-removable component parts that will withstand the test of African usage more effectively

Once the school project is completed we will have an official opening ceremony with all of the local community present, and celebrate our achievements. The following day there will be the opportunity for a game drive in this magnificent region bordering the Namib Desert, where we hope to see the famous Namibian desert elephant in its natural habitat.

More Information

Namibia is one of the few places on earth where the natural environment rules supreme, with spectacular sunsets and plentiful wildlife. It is a country where you can experience a real sense of freedom due to the huge open expanse of the desert.

The Anixab community at Sorris-Sorris in Damaraland consists mostly of Damara speaking people, with a smattering of Herero folks here and there. They are predominantly livestock farmers trying to eke out a living in this extremely harsh environment which borders the Namib Desert to the north of Brandberg Mountain (at 2370m the highest mountain in Namibia). They keep goats, with some cattle and desert adapted sheep whose numbers fluctuate with the ups and downs of the unpredictable rainfalls of these parts. A few roadside shops and curio stands attempt to secure some trade from passing tourists on their way into the highly sought after destinations offered by northern Damaraland and Kaokoland in the north-west of Namibia.
