Vietnam Charity Bike Ride - Children in Crossfire. Vietnam
06 April 2010 to 16 April 2010
Our adventure starts in Hanoi, a city rapidly developing under the recently accepted market economy and moves into the northern western highlands, with spectacular mountain scenery, and populated by the ethnic hill tribes that make up 10 of Vietnam’s population. Our ride will take in some of the most stunning scenery that Vietnam has to offer, visit sites of historical significance, as well as giving participants a chance to meet rural Vietnamese living a way of life that has hardly changed for centuries.
More Information
Vietnam is still synonymous with the long jungle war that pitted the greatest superpower on earth against a remote eastern nation. Considering the infamous history, Vietnam at peace is a friendly, highly cultured place. The conical hat wearing farmers are always ready with a smile, and it is easy to escape from the tourist trail into soaring mountains cloaked in rich rainforests, find unspoilt palm lined beaches, and watch the locals ploughing their shimmering fields with water buffalo.
Following a snaking ‘S’ shape from the high mountains in the north to the low lying Mekong Delta in the south, along almost 3500km of coastline and the patchwork of rice paddies that make up this unique country, the landscape of Vietnam is almost as diverse as the people who populate it.
Visitors to Vietnam often have certain expectations, but most find that it is not the place they imagined and they leave with wonderful memories of the stunning scenery and cordial people.
