Our CSR Manager Ian McLaughlin reviews a recent CSR project that Across the Divide planned for the insurance and reinsurance underwriting group Amlin.
People learn best through experience
Amlin wanted to add a new element to their existing training provision. They were looking for a creative and thought provoking programme which would consolidate and build upon previous training and allow participants to put skills into practice on a real project. As well as fulfilling a learning and development need, Amlin wanted to move their CSR activities towards a more hands on approach.
They chose to work with Newlands Bishop Farm Solihull, a charity project that support adults with learning difficulties. To support the commercial development of the charity the participants installed an irrigation system for the allotment area, built a shelter for the farm workers and fitted out a farm shop enabling the charity to sell the home grown produce. The project allowed participants genuine opportunities to practice management skills and behaviours in a real setting and to receive constructive feedback.
