About South Africa
|
|
South Africa is a stunning country with a fascinating history and our treks and challenges in the Cape Region and the Cederberg Mountains offer a chance to explore this amazing country.
On our challenge routes we will have the opportunity to visit the historic bushman rock art and stand in the infamous cave where the first secret meeting of apartheid took place. |
'So you set out to travel in Southern Africa and find yourself confronted with what is the most diverse part of earth. It can be truly described as a world in one country and a country for all seasons'. Bulpin's Discovering South Africa

South Africa Chairty Trek
Just three hours north of Cape Town, the Cederberg Mountains are one of South Africa’s best-kept secrets. They offer stunning scenery, a vast array of perfectly preserved bushman artwork and a wealth of flora and fauna. The region is a protected area and we are extremely lucky to have been given special permission to trek and cycle here. |

South Africa Multi Activity Charity Challenge
The ultimate in challenge events, our multi activity charity challenge is based on 5 full days and 2 half days of activity covering a total distance of 170km within the Cederberg Wilderness area. |
Other highlights include: Hike Kruger Park. High adventure is why you come to South Africa's Kruger National Park: feeling your heart leap into your mouth as an elephant thunders across the veld; resisting the urge to run when the scimitar-curve of huge buffalo horns rises over the long grasses; lying sleepless in your tent listening to the ghoulish laughter of hyenas. All the "Big Five" (elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, and both species of rhino) flourish in South Africa's most popular game park, which is bigger in size than Israel and located four hours east of Johannesburg in the "lowveld" of Mpumalanga province. You can — with an armed guide — go hiking for up to four days into the middle of it all. And there's so much beauty: the scent of wild herbs crushed underfoot, meadows full of dancing butterflies, the feel of smooth tree trunks cool against the hand. One caveat: the high demand to hike these trails means you should book at least a year in advance - or you can contact us and we will arrange a safari and a more relaxed experience. Horseback in the mountain kingdom of Lesotho. Set entirely within east-central South Africa, Lesotho serves up stone villages atop remote hillsides. Villagers, called Basotho, live draped in blankets and robes, almost like ancient Greeks. Shepherd boys sit on the slopes, playing flutes. Vultures and eagles cruise overhead. There are few roads; in Lesotho, the horse remains chariot of choice, and this is how you'll want to get around as well. Semongkong Lodge, near Maletsunyane — Southern Africa's highest waterfall — offers horseback treks of several days; you'll stay in timeless Basotho villages and ride some of the subcontinent's steepest terrain. The Basotho ponies, schooled in a special "tripling" gait, are tough, sure-footed, and afraid of nothing. A tip - book a trek that coincides with Semonkong's horse races. They're wild spectacles involving carefully nurtured thoroughbreds, child jockeys, and epic bouts of drinking. Fish River Canyon in southern Namibia, is second only in grandeur to the USA’s Grand Canyon in Arizona. It is absolutely magnificent and breathtaking in its immensity. Rock stratas of purples, pinks and greys stretch along a 100-mile (161km) course. Yet it comes as something of a shock when you arrive at the canyon, as you have no idea it is there. It drops vertically by 1,800ft (550m) out of a flat arid plateau without any warning, even though at some points it is 17 miles (27km) wide! |
