About Ecuador

Print this panel email to a friend

For such a small country Ecuador packs a punch. It is here that the Andes start to narrow and break apart into smaller ridges and this gives the country distinct climatic and geographical regions.
From the humid jungles of the Amazonian rainforest to the snow clad peaks of its volcanoes, our charity challenges explore the full spectrum. Join us on an adventure you will never forget.

Camping at the base of Cotopaxi Volcano

The Cotopaxi Volcano Climb

Our trekking area is in the region of the Cotopaxi volcano - one of the most spectacular in South America. The perfectly formed, snow-covered, and cloud-enveloped cone of Cotopaxi is 5,897 metres high.

The trek will pass through traditional farmland and take us up onto the lava plain at the base of the cone. We will climb up Cotopaxi to the snowfield and the mountain refuge, and then drop back down towards an ancient Inca hill fort.

From the volcano's east side we will make our way around its base until we will have almost encircled it.

Cotapaxi Horse Trek

Our ride begins at Hacienda Santa Rita Private Reserve at 3,300m. The ride will take us along the native Andean forest enjoying the magnificent view of the neighbouring mountains covered with snow. The horses that will be provided are known as Criollo horses. They are very versatile and are ideally suited to the terrain that will be encountered on this trek.

'The smallest country in the rugged Andean highlands, Ecuador is among the most rewarding travel destinations in South America. With its array of vibrant indigenous cultures, well preserved colonial architecture, otherworldly volcanic landscapes and dense rainforest, it packs its perimeters with more points of interest than many countries twice its size'.
