About Cambodia

Print this panel email to a friend

Cambodia has returned to the traveller's map after decades of the ravages of civil war and the excesses of the Pol Pot regime and makes and ideal location for a charity event or fundraising challenge location. This exciting country is ready to be rediscovered.

Modern-day Cambodia lies at the heart of Indochina and is the successor-state of the mighty Khmer empire which for five centuries was the cultural heartland of South East Asia, ruling over much of what is now Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.

It is a fascinating place that, despite the best efforts of Pol Pot to start at year zero, has managed to retain much of its ancient and unique cultural identity.

If you are a company we have an ever-expanding range of charity projects, charity hikes, multi activity challenges, expeditions and Corporate Social Responsibilty projects to select from or we can tailor an event to meet your specific objectives and assist you with your 'charity of the year' program.

'Had an amazing journey, thanks to you all. People come into your life for a short time, you all have had an everlasting impact on my life. I will never forget you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.'

Ciara Lockhart, Concern Worldwide.

"Cambodians have weathered years of bloodshed, poverty and political instability. Somehow they have come through the experience with smiles still intact. Nobody comes away from Cambodia without a measure of admiration and affection for the inhabitants of this beautiful yet troubled country" Nick Ray, Lonely Planet

Cambodia Charity Bike Ride

Our Cambodian fundraising bike ride ventures off the beaten track into magnificent countryside, allowing you to experience the vibrant colour of Phnom Penh, the faded colonial grandeur of the coastal resorts and the peerless splendour of the Khmer temples at Angkor. Your charity ride will end at Angkor Wat - a place that words simply cannot describe.

Angkor Wat

The Angkor period existed rom 9th to 13th century beginning with King Jayavarman II taking the throne in 802. At its peak, the Angkor Empire extended from the border of modern day Burma east to the South China Sea and north to Laos. The most famous of the great kings who built famous temples was King Suryavarman II who built the world renowned Angkor Wat, whereas King Jayavarman VII successfully and aggressively constructed most of the largest temples of Angkor, particularly the Great City known as Angkor Thom.

The building work not only included magnificent temples, but also vast man-made lakes together with a sophisticated system of irrigation canals and dykes. This enabled rice to be harvested three times a year.
